Fujita Tenzan was born in Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture.
He studied Tozan-ryū shakuhachi from an early age under Miyoshi Genzan, and later under the Nakao Tozan IV.
He passed the Tozan-ryū Shakuhachi Shihan (master) Exam with the highest score. Fujita graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts, Department of Traditional Japanese Music, as a Shakuhachi Major.
He has performed in the Middle East (4 countries), Africa (8 countries), India, Brazil, etc., through the Japan Foundation.
He received the Gold Prize at the Tozan-ryū Shakuhachi National Championship and the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Encouragement Prize 4 times in a row from 1997 to 2001.
He received the Sankei Shimbun Award in 2000.
He is a Grand Master Chikurinken, and currently a director of the Tozan-ryū Shakuhachi Association.
He is an official Tozan-ryū lecturer and Tozan-ryū certification committee member, Tozan-ryū Publication Committee member, and Tenzan-kai president.
